This year Singapore is celebrating its 50th Birthday. On this occasion, there are many activities and initiatives are currently going on in our red dot collectively called as SG50 celebrations.
As a founder and admin of our happening Facebook group “SINdiapore” and page “Singapore Desi”, I am glad to have contributed to one such wonderful activity organized by Demure Drapes.

Demure Drapes is a dream of Ruby who wants to present the most elegant and never-go-out-of-the-fashion of Saree in all possible ways – be it modern, traditional, bridal and many other forms. Ruby and her team of like-minded beautiful ladies are showcasing vibrant colors, materials and drapes of sarees in a series of stage shows all across the island.

I got to know Ruby through Facebook and the moment she checked with me whether I would like to be a part of Saree Shade Fashion Show @ Bishan, I lapped up the opportunity.

Initially, there was some apprehension since I don’t wear saree at all except when there is some festival / ritual..forget about carrying it off with panache and all..

After starting rehearsals though, things started looking a bit easy especially in the company of Ruby and other participants from all walks of life – multi-racial, locals, expats.. All were so bubbly and eager to learn ramp walk and to share their learnings from Demure Drapes previous show. The rehearsal venue used to bustle with laughs, chats though the whole theme would always be centred around sarees, accessories and props.

As the day of Saree Shade Show came nearer, proceedings became more intense..More gruelling rehearsals, more detailed discussions on saree, its drape, jewellery and so on. Demure Drapes team was ever-helpful and ready with solutions! 🙂
I was a bundle of nerves before and on the day of the show..what if my steps go wrong, what if I mess up the whole team’s co-ordination.. Ruby was a pillar of encouragement and kind words for all of us in this situation.
Lots of residents were in attendance. All cheering the performers. Once the music started, all geared up to put in their best! We all performed quite well and presented various hues and shades of sarees to multi-racial audience.
Our show-stopper was Mrs Queen of Substance 2015, Chandrika Rajaram, Ambassador for Mrs Lumiere 2015..She is so tall and so down-to-earth..

Galore of selfies, camera clicks by professional and amateur photogs and finally the show came to a glorious end when GOH Mr Wong Kan Seng, MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC came on stage and appreciated all of us 🙂 🙂
