Icing – Would you do it the way Deepika Padukone did?

If you are following Oscars or Bollywood celebrities then one thing you must have read about how Deepika Padukone prepared her skin before the awards where she was one of the presenters.

Yes, we are talking about Icing also known as Ice facial or Skin Icing. We feel that it’s one trend / skincare routine worth trying mainly because it’s simple to follow. Of course, not to overdo it and if you are going to try it, try with caution!

Face icing is a beauty treatment that involves using ice or a cold compress to apply cold to the face. The practice is believed to have various benefits for the skin, such as reducing inflammation, improving circulation, tightening pores, and reducing puffiness.

Here’s our take, tips and Do’s for Skin Icing

An Icing can be a great way to rejuvenate and refresh your skin at home. We have tried it and these tips are based on our own experience.

Here are some steps to follow to give yourself an icing:

  1. Start with a clean face. Use a gentle cleanser to remove any makeup, dirt, or oil from your skin.
  2. Fill your basin with ice cubes. Ensure that basin is thoroughly clean! OR fill up a pot with lots of Ice cubes. Feeling a little less adventurous? Then wrap a few ice cubes in a clean washcloth or towel. You can also use a reusable ice pack or specialized ice rollers designed for facial use.
  3. Sink your face in the basin full of ice cubes for a few seconds at a time. OR Hold the ice pack or wrapped ice cubes on your face for 1-2 minutes at a time, starting with your forehead and working your way down to your chin.
  4. Pay extra attention to any areas that are particularly puffy or inflamed, like your under-eye area.
    • Take a break every few minutes to allow your skin to warm up before continuing the treatment. We did around 2-3 repetitions but it may vary based on your skin.
  5. After Icing, wipe your face and apply a moisturizer or serum to help lock in the benefits of skin icing.

One of the instant results that we got is: Refreshed skin and fresh face! Some other benefits may include reducing inflammation and swelling, increasing blood flow to the skin, and tightening pores. However, be careful not to overdo it, as excessive use of ice on the skin can cause skin damage.

***If you have sensitive skin, be careful when using ice, as it can cause skin irritation or even frostbite if left on for too long.

***If you have any concerns about using ice on your skin, consult with a healthcare professional / dermatologist before doing so.

Icing can be a quick, convenient and useful tool for facial, reducing puffiness, inflammation and soothing irritated skin, but it is important to use it safely and appropriately.
