One month of Circuitbreaker has begun in Singapore to combat Coronavirus and that means schools have switched to fully HBL [Home-Based Learning]. Most workplaces are closed too barring Essential services. We all are in a very interesting never-before-seen scenario where all in the family must stay at home because staying home means staying safe!

Covid-19 is an unique event that takes place once-in-a-lifetime and of course, it’s extremely worrying, frustrating, depressing. At the same time, the basic tendency of humans is to stay hopeful and find positives in every negative. RainbowDiaries is sharing lots of resources that we ourselves are trying. At the same time, I am sharing valuable tips that are based on my own experiences.

To make the Circuitbreaker period fruitful, lemme share with you some of the amazing learning tools that Google has brought to us. Read on and try them out at your home with your kids!

YouTube Learning Resources

Learn@Home is a new website with learning resources and content for families and will spotlight content across math, science, history and arts from popular learning channels. It also has a dedicated section for families with kids under 13, where parents and kids can watch videos together that encourage kids’ creativity, curiosity, playfulness and offline activities.

AR for education

You can use AR to place 3D digital objects right in your own space directly from Search or from websites on Chrome. Learn more about everything from human anatomy to animals like hedgehogs, penguins, and sharks, with a greater sense of context and scale. Simply type in the search bar and click on ‘View in 3D’.

A tap on “view in your space” will bring the animal you were looking up into the real world––whether it’s a brown bear taking a stroll through your room or a green sea turtle swimming over the kitchen counter. You can walk around your space and look at the animal from different angles or turn up the sound on your phone to hear distinct noises.

Google Arts and Culture Virtual Tours and More

  • The​ Google Arts & Culture​ app puts the treasures, stories and knowledge of over 2,000 cultural institutions from 80 countries at your fingertips. 
  • AR Big Bang​ is an app developed in collaboration with​ C​ERN​, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Trigger the Big Bang from the palm of your hand and join Tilda Swinton on an epic journey through the birth and evolution of the universe. 
  • The Art of Colour “Pocket Gallery”​ opens up a virtual space that playfully adopts colors and geometric shapes to reflect the works of art inside. Walk through this real size gallery as if you were there. 

Online Safety: Be Internet Awesome

  • Navigating the internet is an important learning opportunity.​ B​e Internet Awesome​ teaches kids the fundamentals of digital citizenship and safety so they can explore the online world with confidence.
  • Kids can play their way to being Internet Awesome with Interland,​ an online adventure that puts the key lessons of digital safety into hands-on practice with four challenging games.

Google Earth Voyager and Games

  • Simply say, “Hey Google, play a game” to pick from a variety of games for your family.

    Though all of us are locked up in our houses. The internet is indeed a blessing that helps us look at the world virtually. Cannot imagine how we could have coped without access to internet and television!
