In my wildest imagination, I wouldn’t have thought that in this age and technology, we will face pandemic! Now, that WHO has declared #Covid19 as a pandemic, it’s sure that we all are bracing for something that is still largely unknown.
In this post, I am sharing current day situation and also documenting how #covid19 unfolded for my family. I have tried to get most of the facts correct but if there are a few things here and there, please excuse.
How it all began for us in Singapore?
We all were very happy because the Chinese New Year long weekend was approaching and the atmosphere in Singapore was festive with CNY decor adorning the streets and houses. We had Legoland visit on the cards too during the CNY holidays. Among all this, I vividly remember reading a news about some “strange” pneumonia cases in China’s Wuhan. The cases were not that much that time and it was far away in China. So that news didn’t get much attention that time…
Things start to go haywire…
On 23rd Jan to be precise, it started to look different … I remember asking Legoland contacts of my Media trip whether it’s safe to travel there. Frankly speaking that time there were some cases in other countries but not many and not in Malaysia where Legoland is situated. No idea why but our innermost heart was telling us that this is not like usual stuff. Nevertheless, we travelled. We carried some masks with us. Wet wipes and sanitizers anyways are a regular in our travel luggage.
We went by a chartered car and didn’t have to face the immigration crowd – Good thing. We were in a close proximity of the car driver – Question-mark thing. [What if the driver had infection]
Well, we enjoyed in Legoland. It was a bit “quiet” and we found less tourists. [Now I realize that Chinese tourists from China were already less that time]
Within a week, it’s worrysome situation
Boom boom boom! In less than a week, the picture started looking pretty grim and “Wuhan Coronavirus” or “nCov 2019” as it was called in earlier days started to become a full-blown crisis for not only China where it originated but in some other countries too. Singapore and Hong Kong initially were “competing” for second spot in the overall tally and then Singapore became Second in the list for a few days.
Cut to today’s scenario!
#Covid19 is ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE! Cases have run in thousands and million. Most worrysome is the number of a few thousand deaths.
Many countries are under lockdown and more are on the way to it.
Singapore has proved to be such an excellent exception so far when it comes to management of cases and overall scenario that is ever-evolving. Kudos to Government and all the frontliners for making it possible to continue daily life as smoothly as possible. Touchwood.
What’s next? Taking one day at a time…and keeping fingers crossed. Stay safe, stay home guys!
