Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth: Why It Is A Must-Watch For Gen-Z And Their Parents

Yes, you read it right! Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) is bringing Shakespeare in the Park back with Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth!! This iconic outdoor event is bigger, bolder, and even more spectacular than ever this year. Macbeth is Shakespeare’s gripping story about ambition, fate, and the heavy cost of power and watching it under the Stars in Fort Canning Park will be an unforgettable experience for families.

Here’s why we think that Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth is Not-to-be-Missed.

Live Theatre Meets Epic Cinema

Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth is directed by Guy Unsworth who wowed audiences with Julius Caesar in 2018 and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2023 and this is his most ambitious production. Fort Canning Park has transformed into an open-air stage, where Macbeth’s tragedy will unfold in a bold, immersive manner.

SRT has put Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth on a massive scale this year. Imagine the beautiful park under the stars while watching one of the greatest work of legendary Shakespeare with your friends and family. It will be nothing less than magical.

As an audience we can expect music, puppetry, and eye-popping visuals where live theatre meets epic cinema!

Bold New Spin on a Classic and yet so relevant

Is Macbeth still relevant in this era of social media? That was one question you’ll have on mind. Though SRT’s 2025 Shakespeare in the Park production isn’t your school textbook Macbeth it’s still totally relevant today. This year’s version reimagines the story in a striking sci-fi-inspired world that feels eerily close to our own – modern yet chaotic and very relatable.

Our world which is driven by social media, constant competition, and a hunger for power is exactly the path Macbeth takes. Shakespeare wrote about ruthless power struggles centuries ago, and somehow it’s all very relevant even today.

Not only parents and grandparents but even children have a huge takeaway from Shakespeare in the Park!

Star-Studded Cast of Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth

Portraying the twisted and multi-layered characters of Shakespeare is never too straightforward. Award-winning actor and Singapore theatre favourite Ghafir Akbar will be starring as Macbeth, with Julie Wee taking on the role of Lady Macbeth.

This stellar cast will elevate the play to the next level and audiences are in for a treat.

Not just a Play but an immersive Adventure on Roblox for Singapore Youth

This is a mind-blowing idea for which we have to thank SRT. As a parent, we often wonder whether the new generation will truly appreciate Shakespeare’s works.

With around 100,000 Singaporean teens active on Roblox, SRT is tapping into a powerful platform to bring Shakespeare’s timeless themes to a new generation. Macbeth on Roblox continues SRT’s legacy of innovation, making the Bard’s work accessible, relevant, and exciting for young audiences both in Singapore and beyond.

Set in a stylised sci-fi world, this immersive adventure on Roblox draws players into Macbeth’s mind, challenging them to make choices and face the haunting fallout of unchecked ambition. As a digital companion to the live production, the game offers an engaging new way to connect with Macbeth. With more than half a million play sessions expected over the next year, it promises to leave a lasting impression—long after the curtain falls.

Singapore youth spend a huge amount of time online and on gaming. The virtual world of Macbeth on Roblox will spark their interest in theatre and storytelling and eventually draw them into the magic of the play. Check out Macbeth on Roblox here!

Bringing Shakespeare into the Classroom

In collaboration with the National Arts Council, SRT has also tailored Macbeth on Roblox as a classroom resource. Designed in alignment with the Ministry of Education’s Literature in English outcomes for both Lower and Upper Secondary levels, the game helps teachers foster deeper literary understanding and lasting engagement with Shakespeare’s work.

As a parent of teens, I can’t wait to experience Shakespeare in the Park – Macbeth with them. I’m sure as a family, the experience will be very enriching.
