Art Day Out at Gillman Barracks 11th March – Must Visit

Saturdays are beautiful and there cannot be a better way to spend this Saturday fruitfully at Gillman Barracks where Art, Creativity, Edutainment and Delish Food comes together for the complete Family Bonding experience. Yes, I am talking about Art Day Out at Gillman Barracks.

Set in a former military barracks dating back to 1936 and surrounded by lush tropical greenery, the Gillman Barracks visual arts cluster was launched in September 2012. Gillman Barracks is now home to leading international and home-grown galleries, national research centre NTU Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) Singapore, and art organisations Art Outreach and Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity. The art businesses and organisations are complemented by design retailer Supermama, and an array of cafes, bars and restaurants.

You cannot miss visiting Gillman Barracks because it is a place for art lovers, art collectors, and those curious about art. It is a focal point of Singapore’s arts landscape, and anchors the development of visual art in the region and beyond.

We went for the Media Preview of Art Day Out last week and we will recommend it as a must must visit place. Especially parents – if you want your kids to introduce to Art then this is the best place to start!

This is what you can do at the Gillman Barracks:

Visit Playeum Children’s Centre for Creativity

Only on Art Day Out!, the Children’s Centre for Creativity’s exhibition A World Full of Stories will feature a special 20% discount across all ticket categories. Discounted entry applies from 2:00pm onwards. Regular admission rates will apply from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Free art activities such as The Amazing Shapes Trail and a specially-designed ‘Art Jam’ session (‘Make Your Puppet Move!’) will also be conducted at the Block 47 plaza outside Playeum from 2pm – 6pm.

March holidays have started and Playeum is conducting March holiday camp ‘Tales of Time’. In this one-hour session, children’s perception of time will be explored using their creativity, drama games and various art activities through a familiar narrative.

My kids and me had a taster of this holiday camp and gosh, they ♥ed it!!!

  1. The place really suits for the family especially the kids will really enjoy and at the same time the adults, such a stress reliever! I hope to come by here this summer!

  2. This place looks really fun especially for kids (and kids at heart!). I just visited Singapore last year and I’m not sure I can visit anytime soon. 🙁

  3. Is this a one day event or a weekly one? If it’s only a one day event, I think most people would have missed this chance to attend the event. 🙁 But it looked like you guys had fun!

    1. U can visit Playeum and Gillman Barracks anytime la…I think the Lock route is open 24×7…The kids programs in playeum are also ongoing…

  4. Very nice how they are able to convert old buildings into places with a totally different concept and purpose in mind. Who would have thought that military barracks would someday be an art gallery. Totally different vibe.

  5. I don’t think that I can visit it anytime soon. But if I happen to visit Singapore, this will be in my list! I love everything that you presented here, especially the statues! <3
